IA-1 Hacking Wiki Up Posted @ 19:14:20 PST by qDot
http://wiki.ia1hacking.com

Ok, finally got around to putting up a wiki so we can get all the information moved all off this old, horribly broken setup. Mod rights are available to users who register. Once I feel like everything useful from this page has been ported to the wiki, I'll just move the wiki to the front page and archive this site off.

Oops I broke it. Posted @ 21:38:04 PST by qDot
Yes. I am still alive, but not really paying much attention at /all/ to the page any more, which is really kinda sad. I still get 1 or 2 emails a month about this thing, mostly from poor people who bought a Clipper unit off ebay (did those ever become hackable?).

Anyways, if you check out this place with any regularity for some reason, you''ll notice that it completely broke last week. In a fit of upgrade-itis, I was going to pave the whole think with mediawiki and open it to user-based maintenance. However, I got as far as upgrading to php5 then stopped, which broke all the old nasty crufted code on here already. I''ve reset the site back to php4 for the time being, but I''ll hopefully have the wiki page done before February, at which point someone else will hopefully update on what else has happened in the IA-1 world in the past couple of years. Maybe I''ll finally haul mine out again too...

Let's try this again... Posted @ 17:11:00 PST by qdot
First off, thanks to everyone that has been linking to my site. Looks like I'm getting lots of referers on eBay, which means there's still a fairly heavy trade of IA-1's.

Well, I'm gonna give this whole internet appliance hacking website thing another shot. :)

I purchased iahacking.com, and will soon (read: hopefully sometime in the next two months) be opening a site there. It looks like a lot of IA hacking sites are stagnant or dying (just like this one :/ ), so I'm opening up a site for all appliances. My support for the IA-1 will not decrease at all, but I also own an Audrey and Virgin Webplayer, and feel like supporting all of them might be a good idea.

So, that's something to look forward to. Other than that, hope everyone is still finding the site useful. :)

1 update a year seems about right... Posted @ 13:09:00 PDT by qdot
Hi everyone. So yeah, the page has fallen into *complete* disrepair now due to my life being kinda crazy and my IA-1 not getting turned on much anymore. However, I've been getting quite a few emails over the past couple of months with people saying that MSN is finally shutting down service for IA-1's. There are quite a few people out there look for others that will do OS conversions for them. So, if you are interested in either having your IA-1 converted to a different OS, or else are interested in possibly making some cash converting other people's IA-1's, please post a comment on this thread. It'd be a shame to see machines go to waste when the service dies.

We're still alive. =D Posted @ 08:47:00 PDT by qdot
Wow. 14,000 hits. Not bad.

I've gotten a few mails here and there throughout the past few months on the IA1, looks like people are still having fun with it. Good stuff.

Just because I havn't linked it yet, if you want up to date talk on IA1 hacking, visit the linux-hacker.net boards

And just a quick note... This site is not DEAD, just kinda dormant. I have no plans on taking it down, and will still answer questions and try to post up new stuff if I see it, I just havn't had time to actively research anything in a while. :)

ACK! Posted @ 15:24:00 PST by qdot
Ok, I just checked my email and have learned a bunch of articles on the page seem to be broken, no clue why. I'll be home tomorrow and things should be fixed then.

To everyone who wants to add stuff to the page (images/utils/etc), yes, I've gotten your email, I've just been VERY busy graduating and so I'm really backlogged. I should start getting up to date on everything soon, so expect new stuff on the page.

Ahhh, sweet dormancy... Posted @ 02:08:00 PDT by qdot
Ok, well, doesn't look like much more is happening with the IA-1 at the moment. I still keep an eye on the linux-hacker boards and what not, but everything has been really quiet for almost 2 months now.

Don't worry, the page isn't going anywhere. I'll definatly leave it here and a resource for people still getting into the IA-1. I still get a lot of usage out of mine as a "by the couch" computer. It just seems that with the advent of the LED controller app and Midori, there's not much need for more info. So, unless anything drasticly new happens, I don't see much more happening to the page.

If you have any comments/question, please leave a comment or email me at qdot@ia1hacking.com. Thanks to all who contributed. :)

Well, it's pretty dead around here, and the linux-hacker boards are quiet too... Anyone still alive? :)

New version of screensaver up Posted @ 23:41:00 PDT by qdot
A new version of the backlight screensaver by Neptune has been posted to the Linux files section. This fixes the random quit bug.
